GIVE A HELPING HAND TO THOSE WHO NEED IT!

We currently house 32 boys and 2 girls in our orphanage and provide assistance to the caretakers to four orphan girls who live outside the orphanage.
We provide a safe and nurturing home for orphaned children. Since opening our doors in 2010, we have been honored with multiple awards recognizing our work as one of the leading orphanages in Afghanistan. At the heart of everything we do is a deep commitment to the children’s health, education, and overall well being. Our motto,
“raising orphans like our own,”
reflects the love, care, and dignity with which we treat every child, giving them hope for a brighter future.

Our History

Orphan House Foundation (OHF) was founded in 2010 by Dr. Kadeer Halimi, an emergency room physician whose life’s work has been dedicated to caring for children. From its beginning, OHF has focused on nurturing the whole child—supporting physical and mental health, providing access to education, and empowering children to envision and shape their own futures. We believe it is not where a child begins in life, but where they are able to finish.

Dr. Halimi established OHF with the mission of caring for orphaned children in Afghanistan with the same love, commitment, and conviction he gives to his own three children in the United States. Orphan House Foundation strives to offer more than shelter; it provides a true home and a way of life rooted in dignity, opportunity, and hope. Our goal is to extend this level of care to as many orphaned children as we can responsibly support.

In recognition of its impact, the European Union honored Orphan House Foundation in 2013 as “the best orphanage in Kabul.”

Orphan House Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States and is also registered as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) with Afghanistan’s Department of Education.

Growth Timeline

Since opening its doors in 2010, Orphan House Foundation has been a beacon of hope for orphaned children in Kabul, Afghanistan. What began as a small home has grown into a loving sanctuary, now caring for over 40 boys and girls, where every child is raised with the same love, guidance, and opportunity we give our own in the United States.

Over the years, our children have achieved remarkable milestones: several have graduated from high school, many are pursuing higher education at universities across Afghanistan, and some have even earned scholarships to study abroad in Turkey. Each success represents not just academic achievement, but the resilience, dreams, and bright futures of children who once had little hope.

Our journey continues, and every step forward is a testament to the power of love, care, and opportunity. Join us in supporting Orphan House Foundation as we continue to transform lives, one child at a time.

Our Mission

We are here to take care of orphans

Orphan care is at the heart of everything we do. We provide a safe, loving home for children in our orphanage while also supporting orphaned girls living outside the facility through trusted family members. Each child receives an exceptional education through private schooling at one of the most elite Afghan-Turk schools in Kabul. To ensure their safety, stability, and well-being, we also provide private drivers, cooks, household staff, and dedicated tutors—so the children can focus on healing, learning, and building a hopeful future.
